Appraisers

It's A Fun Job, But Someone Has to Do It!

And Every Team Must Supply A TRAINED Appraiser

The Challenges of Destination ImagiNation are designed to foster teamwork, innovation and creativity in two different methods: long term planning and resource management and "stand on your feet" experience.

The teams at any NH-DI tournament compete in these two different types of challenges. There is a Team Challenge, for which the teams have been working on a solution for several months. This is the part of a NH-DI tournament that the public sees. Each team also is presented with an Instant Challenge, which the team has to solve in just a few minutes without having seen it previously. This is closed to the public, but a Team Manager may observe. Rules may differ for Rising Stars and non-competitive teams.

Although NH-DI prefers to focus on the creativity rather than the competitive, a tournament is fundamentally a competitive event: The solutions are judged for creativity, innovation, teamwork, completeness, integration and presentation. This is the role of the appraising teams. These teams consist of people who enjoy working in a supportive way with children.

These appraisers are trained in the challenge to which they are assigned and in the NH-DI "way" of judging: valuing creativity, unusual solutions, teamwork, risk-taking and sportsmanship.
