This was
an amazing week. While New Hampshire captured an amazing ten of the
"Top 10" spots in final standings (from some 800 total teams),
every member of every team was exposed to people from around the the
country, and around the world. How did the kids describe it? Mostly
with one word, "indescribable". After all, imagine being well
practiced at creative problem solving, teamwork and innovation, and
then being thrust into 8,000 kids just like you - but totally different!

From
opening ceremonies, complete with the big screen, laser show and
indoor fireworks, to the closing ceremonies, the excitement was
nonstop.
Sure
there was pin trading, but the weather was beautiful. If it rained,
it sure didn't rain in Knoxville. (Some is predicated after we
leave, though).
Business
leaders like Velcro USA, the National Dairy council, 3M, and Phillips
Electronics, among others were there to see in person what makes
Destination ImagiNation so great.

Education
leaders from around the world like creative problem solving (CPS)
Don Treffinger was there talking with the kids, and sharing more
about the unique opportunities they have.
High
school students had the opportunity to graduate in a ceremony
for family members and friends. At this graduation, Dr. Treffinger
asked the students to follow their passion. "Being well rounded",
he said, "is good if your goal is to grow up to be a golf
ball".
Middle
and elementary students did the same at another venue, and there
was a reception for each right after the ceremony.

There
was the costume ball, the bands, but most of all, there were the
kids: Some 8,000 and creating vivid memories for themselves as
well as others that will last a lifetime.

Closing
ceremonies was bittersweet: A time to leave new friends from all
over the world, but knowing you are one of the best in the world
- and always will be! |
