Special Awards
The DaVincI Award: For Outstanding Creativity
New Searles School, Elementary Division, DIzzy Derby team
31344-2. Creativity is the taking of a simple object like a pencil and making into something memorable by animating it, making it funny, adding color, erasure, and shavings from one amazing pencil sharpener. The team is awarded the DaVincI Award for the integration of innovative and creative ideas, the uniqueness of those ideas, and the execution of the team's ideas.
The Renaissance Award For outstanding Design, Engineering, Execution, Performance
Concord High School,
Live! It’s Radio DI! team
87375-1.This team clearly understood and capitalized on the auditory focus of the RaDIo challenge. Their performance created a strong visual picture in the mind, due to their strongly consistent and clearly individually accented voices and to the sound effects which illustrated sonically exactly what was going on. Four members created fourteen different, identifiable characters blending useful and informative sound effect supporting the story’s events.

Spirit of Discovery and Imagination Award (Spirit of DI Award):
For outstanding Spirit, Teamwork, Volunteerism, Sportsmanship
Zaneta Mabry/ Paula Bonin
- Team Managers.
These individuals have coached DI every year without fail for . . . a very long time. For all those years they made sure the paperwork was complete; the money was collected, the team members transported and the snacks on hand, and they did that thing which is the hardest for Team Managers to do: step aside and let the kids “Do DI”.
Their houses show paint-spattered walls, glue-smeared carpets and tons of stuff—all evidence of non-interference in the teams’ work. Although these Team Managers’ children are graduating, and their managing days are coming to an end, we trust that the Spirit of DI will remain with them and they will continue to kindle that spirit by supporting the program in years to come.
Canaan Elementary,
DIsigning Bridges team
01617-3.As the weigh-in appraiser for DIsigning Bridges, I was able to observe many teams at varying stages of this event. The Canaan Elementary team exhibited the true Spirit of DI. They were consistently upbeat, singing and acting as a true team as they made their way to and from challenges. As a result of their upbeat spirit, other teams acquired a heightened spirit.
Hampstead Academy, Middle Level, team
25667-2. Awarded by the Instant Challenges appraisers,
this team worked together in the best spirit of DI sportsmanship. They cooperated magnificently in a situation charged with energy and stress, respecting all team members’ contributions. The appraisers have rarely seen so many hands working towards a common goal in such a small space. The team maintained outstanding coolness when faced with a dooming deadline. This team demonstrated noteworthy commitment to the DI principles of teamwork and sportsmanship.
Marlborough School, Middle Level, team
66138-1.During their Instant Challenge, this team demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to the tenets of DI through exemplary teamwork in problem solving. In an atmosphere charged with excitement and energy they found a way to work cooperatively with great urgency while maintaining vocal control and respecting each other’s input. The sense of teamwork observed by the appraisers was of the highest orders
Londonderry Middle School, Sudden SerinDIpity team
93398-1. This team’s carefully engineered device used discarded materials in combination with other devices, resulting in the sorting of debris from an imaginary reef. During each phase of the operation an electrically engineered panel displayed a series of lights indicating an accomplished task. The machine operated flawlessly as designed. Their underwater sea creation was truly a wave of innovation!
