GLOBALS UPDATE

Patches of old clothing (including old DI shirts), scraps of fabric, and pictures graced Auburn Village School’s performance. The team created seven quilts which covered themselves as they played a game about women throughout history at a sleepover party. When the characters fell asleep, one ‘woke up’, hitting a button by accident and gets transported to Afghanistan. Here viewers learn about the Taliban and how women are oppressed. Next the character and one Afghanistan are transported to Egypt, where women are dominant. Finally, Jillian, the Afghanistan woman, and Cleopatra are sent to a rally for women’s suffrage where they are all arrested. The sleepover party wakes up, and decide that everyone had the same type of dream, about women’s rights. Ending with a Susan B. Anthony quote, the audience burst into applause.

Auburn Village School presented a moving and enlightening skit about the history of women. With their beautiful quilts and separate time period backdrops the team did a fantastic job with their moving story. Obviously the audience agreed with their cheer, “There’s no DInial, Auburn’s got style!”
