The Challenge that this Hampstead Academy team has taken on is not easy. It requires a group of skills including play writing, prop development for theatre in the round, technical effects innovation, design process and teamwork. Knowing this, the best part of Destination ImagiNation for this team was a bit surprising.

"The instant challenge you always have along with your challenge", according to Lily. The Instant Challenge portion of the competition measures the teams "think on their feet" abilities. "Probably the instant challenge. You never know what they're going to ask you to do!" according to Hannah.

Margaret summed up the team's strong work ethic: "the most important thing in DI is to remember to stick to the subject while having fun at the same time."

And they were clearly successful! These friends are heading off for the opportunity of a lifetime, to be among the over 8,000 participants at the world's largest creativity celebration, Destination ImagiNation Global Finals!

 

It was a great Theatre in the Round venue awaiting this team - and an even better audience from New Hampshire, around the US and around the World!

The teams performance begins with Larry the Clown's flashback, where he makes a "trip" that changes his life. He trips over buttery popcorn, and suddenly becomes very afraid of it. Then he goes on an amazing journey to overcome his fear. The buttery popcorn, who is a character in the skit, is always there to discourage and put the clown down. In the end, with a little help from his friend the tightrope walker, the clown overcomes his fear and we see a new and improved brave clown. Then we see later how the clown, ticket taker, liger, owner, popcorn, tightrope walker and the ring master all have a whole new life.

The team's solid use of the "Theatre in the Round", research, and other elements were outstanding, and were well rewarded by the world-wide audience, make this a great day to remember for the Hampstead Academy team!
