Keene High School, Keene
#130-63055 Sec Level / Card-DI-ology

Welcome the team from Keene High School! Meet Dan, Sarah, Oliver, Ella, Maeve and Karl!

This is a very busy year for this team, but what does this team like to do? "Going contra dancing and doing other activities with the team", according to Ella. Sarah added, " the ability to act completely crazy without anyone thinking you are." The team added "dumpster diving for cardboard!"

The versatile background of the team comes in helpful in Card-DI-ology. Their Challenge blends architectural design, structural engineering, construction, research, innovation, design process, architectural drawings, math, theatre and teamwork. A performance skit -- or what looks like one -- is actually crafted to meet the nearly 20 scoring areas of this challenge. That includes a feather-weight, weight bearing structure of cards.

The team's ability to blend theatre, imagination and engineering elements went a long way to bringing this team to Global Finals.

We will update this page from Global Finals when this team performs, and the site will be updates frequently during Globals!

More from Global Finals, Knoxville Tennessee...

It was a great day for Team New Hampshire at Global Finals today, and a super day for the team from Keene High School!

What was the best part of the year? The team echoed Sarah's response "Everyone meeting together." It really reflected in the blend of architecture, structural engineering, research, theatre and teamwork.

All the math and science were well wrapped in the performance aspect, while the card structure took weight after weight.

It opened with a man, Mr. Edward Yarus, and his pilot crash on an island where the trees are made of cards and the natives speak a unknown language. The natives accept him and make him into a deity. He teaches the natives how to play poker and they become obsessed with the game. Finally Mr. Yarus and the Chief of the natives are playing a poker game when the Chief bets his daughter and Mr. Yarus wins the game and the Chief's daughter. The Chief is very upset that he bet his daughter in the poker game, and he realizes that poker is just a game. After Mr. Yarus sees how depressed the Chief is he realizes that family is more important than any game, even poker.

The crowd from around the US and around the world loved the expression and story that Keene brought to Global Finals!

Well done!!!
