Londonderry High School, Londonderry
#130-41721 Secondary Level / Round About Courage
Welcome one of four Londonderry teams! Leah, Jenna, Devin and Morgan are proud to be heading to Destination ImagiNation Global Finals to represent New Hampshire!
[Londonderry HS/DIrect Flight | Londonderry MS/Traditions | Londonderry MS/Card-DI-ology]

"The most challenging part is trying to find time to have balance meetings, homework, and sports", according to Leah. Considering this Challenge requires a group of skills including play writing,
prop development for theatre in the round, technical effects innovation, design process and teamwork, getting that other stuff must have been a real challenge!
"Figuring out which idea is one that pursue" , Morgan said could be fun - but challenging as well.
Jenna thought it was more
"getting all the elements together into a flowing performance that makes sense."
"It is fun when we are sitting there with no idea what to do and then all of the sudden somebody comes up with a great idea and we spring into action", Jenna added.
Now they get to spring into Knoxville as one of 34 teams representing New Hampshire, and one of four representing Londonderry at Global Finals!
The team wanted to share this message with their supporters:
We would like to say THANK YOU to our coach, Carla. We have certainly had our ups and downs this year but she has always been there to urge us forward, even when we are stuck in a rut . She helps us stay organized, and doesn't let us forget it is most important to be having fun. There is NO WAY we could have done this without her. Also, we would like to thank our families. We really couldn't have done it without them. They drive us around, transport our props, and put up with us when we are stressed. Most of all they support us and we know we can always rely on them. Finally, thank you to everyone who was there at our competitions to cheer us on! We really appreciated it.
It was an outstanding day at Global Finals for this Londonderry team!
Through the year, the team said "getting our technical set piece to work also proved to be very challenging. It took many attempts and lots of different designs before we picked out the right one. Then, every time we thought we had it something went wrong". Today things went right on so many fronts!
The made strong use of the theatre in the round requirement, using all their talents. As many teams are seven team members, this team really gave the effect that there were more than just the four who brought through the performance.
The performance starts out with meeting Octet. She is a lonely Octopus who is tired of living in her tank. The Vulture, who is a superhero, is the only one that comes to visit her everyday. Then a family of ladybugs comes to look at Octet and teaches her an important lesson on love. When the Vulture does not return the next day, Octet finds out that the Vulture is trapped in the Elephants cage in desperate need of help. Octet is the only one able to save her. She uses the newfound love, that the Ladybugs taught her, to get the Vulture out of the grasps of the Elephant who is sucking the love out of the Vulture.
The team's ability to leverage the nearly 20 scoring areas of the challenge was well done, and the crowd from around the world loved the classic tale and resolution!
"Sometimes your closest friends become your family", according to Morgan. Jenna was quick to add,
"We are each other's closest friends. Even though the 'DI chapter' of our lives may be over someday, our friendship is everlasting."
And this day will go down as one of those amazing days!
