Welcome one of two teams from Mascoma Valley Regional High School! (The other team is Round About Courage team) Kara, Jordan, Michel, Amber, Alex, Simon and Sam are the DIrect Flight team from Mascoma Valley RHS from the towns of Canaan and Enfield!

This team heads of to Global Finals with the distinction of winning a DaVinci Award for outstanding creativity for a unique approach to a solution, for risk taking, and for outstanding creativity.

There were challenges to the team's success as well. "Finding the time for everyone to meet at once is always challenging, but somehow we pull it together", according to Sam. Amber thought "getting everyone to agree on one interpretation of the rules" was challenging, and Simon felt it was "trying to convince your team that a 21 foot long tv made of cardboard and cloth is a GOOD idea" rated as well.

What did they learn this year? Mike had the answer: "Don't hide right next the the heater [when playing hide and seek]. " True words. Sam also had a thought. "The most important thing was not talking about doing something, but actually getting it done." And they did.

They are heading off to Destination ImagiNation Global Finals!

 

As expected, the venue at Globals for this challenge that blends tecnhical design/construction, innovation and design process, math, experimentation, theatre arts and strategic planning was super with a good Team New Hampshire and international contingent on hand to welcome the team.

It's clear why this team won the top award Destination ImagiNation has to offer at New Hampshire State Finals. The State Final appraiser teams said, "If you need a team to design or develop an invention that uses heat, air or electricity to precisely move an aircraft in a truly novel fashion then this is the team to come to . This team wowed the appraisers with their attention to detail and their awesome performance. Not only did they engineer their aircraft to be functional but they also continued to refine their unique approaches. This team even have more ideas to improve functionality in the future. Their cohesiveness as a group really showed through in their highly polished and wicked cool performance".

And they did it again. The storyline wrapped around the research and design had an invention from Dr. Mariachi.

He has developed an unusual and unorthodox method to cure her ailing patient Winne. From tabloids and internet articles she has figured out a way to shrink docotors down to microscopic size and insert them into her patient by using a three foot syringe. With the help from the little doctors she discovers that Winnie has ocDI, adDI and monDI (the lack of kissing disease).

Add in a 20 foot television, clever innovation and lines and super execution and you had a fantastic performance from this team!
