Monadnock Regional High School, Swanzey
#130-55838 Sec Level / Card-DI-ology

Welcome the team from Monadnock Regional High School! Sarah, Alison, Zack, Kylie, Adam, Tom, and James are heading to Destination ImagiNation Global Finals as one of the Granite State's veteran Global Finals teams!

How much weight can playing cards hold? Now keep the structure feather-light, require architectural
design, structural engineering, research, innovation, design process, architectural drawing, math,
theatre arts and teamwork - and you have an idea what has kept this team busy for the past six months!

They spent that time, as Sarah explains, "exploring different structure ideas and seeing them work, or in some cases, fail." James was quick to add, " learning different ways to build structures, seeing what works and what doesn't. Once we got to Globals last year, [one of the best parts was] meeting the Poland and California teams.

So what do these veterans of Globals think is the most important part about doing Destination ImagiNation is high school? "I'd say the most important part is some dedication to what you believe is the solution to your challenge, and the fun part is finding a way to make it work no matter how difficult it seems", according to Zach. " Looking at your finished product and being able to brag about it".

Sarah saw it as "staying stress free and not blaming people when things go wrong." James said "definitely cracking down during meetings and actually getting to work, rather than just hanging out".

And this team knows success!

More from Global Finals, Knoxville Tennessee...

Monadnock is back at Global Finals! It's always great to see the relaxed, focused nature of the experienced Monadnock team. It was a great New Hampshire and international crowd at the venue welcoming the team.

The team performance built on the weights being added to their card structure. It opened n the midst of their recess activities. Little 8 year old Tommy is reluctantly introduced to the world of Hanbasho, a competitive sumo-based card game, by his best friend Zack. The two of them go on to beat everyone, including the playground champ, Sarah, to reign as champions. Tom's addicted, though, and MUST stand alone as the school's supreme Hanbasho player, in spite of Zack's warnings that there is more to recess than just playing Hanbasho. Tom is punished by Mr. Mitchell, who takes away his cards. Tom scores another deck from Adam, the playground supplier and, believing he has been betrayed by Zack, angrily calls his best friend out to a final showdown, complete with play-by-playground and color commentary by Sarah and Alison and a scoreboard.

It was smooth, polished, and well received by all in attendance!

It underscored a very successful year. So what was the best part of the year? According to Tom, it was
"getting everything together and working together as a team. Also the chance to meet and hang out with other teams".

Outstanding team!!!
