Rundlett Middle School, Concord
#130-77396 Mid Level / Round About Courage

Welcome one of two teams from Rundlett Middle School! Meet Kyle, Melissa, Alexis, Jasmin, Cam,
Mike and Russell! (The other Rundlett Middle School team is doing the CSI:DI Challenge)

This team had a number of challenges that they had to overcome to be productive - but it was also fun. Melissa thought building the teamwork was one of the best parts of the year. "Learning to work together as a good team with all the different personalities on our team." Russell thought it was "Working with the new people that I had never met before." Jasmin agreed. "This year it was probably teamwork because we all have such different personalities."

Putting all these personalities together is what made this team the magic it is.

Kyle said "Expressing my creativity and the thrill of competing" was the best part of their Destination ImagiNation year. Cam thought "Performing ... at the tournament(s), and meeting other teams and seeing their skit is definitely the most fun thing!"

Their performance has to weave play writing, theatre in the round, props and set design, technical effects innovation and design process with teamwork. Their performance at State Finals won this team a Spirit of Discovery and ImagiNation Award.

Russell sums it up: "Something fun is that I have been doing DI for 8 years, and I finally get to go to globals!"

More from Global Finals, Knoxville Tennessee...

It was an outstanding day, with an outstanding crowd from around the world watching an outstanding team from Concord, NH.

The complex blends of technology, theatre and design - done in the round - was something this team was ready for.

The topic of their play hushed the international crowd in the same way it did at Regionals and States in New Hampshire.

The storyline focused on a boy struggling with ADHD as the unlikely hero. Dexter can't focus very long on anything, no matter how important. But now, Dexter's parents are trapped and near death and only Dexter can save them. But you guessed it, Dexter wasn't paying attention when he was told how to save them. He now takes a desperate journey into his own brain where he comes face to face with his brain function problems. He finds self control dead, train of thought is off his tracks, and attention span is painfully short. He needs to make repairs and changes, find focus, and then maybe he will remember where his parents are, and how to save them. But will he be on time?

The appraisal team at State Finals had this to say about this team: "This team learned about ADHD and the brain, and with understanding and compassion, presented a creative solution to the problem. They enabled us to understand that this journey brought them closer together and exemplifies the Spirit of DI. They told us that they now understand what their teammate can or cannot change, and their teamwork blew us away".

The audience went wild, and it just doesn't get better than doing this on the Global stage!

Well done Rundlett Middle School!
