Rye/New Castle Schools, Rye
#130-50524 Mid Level / Round About Courage

Welcome one of two teams from Rye / New Castle Schools! From Rye Junior High School welcome
Maddie, Aaron, Nathaniel and Aaron!

This has been an outstanding year from the New Hampshire seacoast team.

"In DI you make new friends and create a better learning environment for yourself," said Aaron E. Aaron R added, "It helps your mind grow when you are given strange challenges and you have to figure them out as a team." With this type of attitude and cooperation on the team, you knew they were going to focus.

"DI is fun because you get to be with your friends and do pretty much anything you want to help the solution," said Maddie. If you don't like acting, you can build build. If you like to write, you can make up the script. DI helps kids be creative and do what they love."

Their challenge had the team blend play writing, theater arts (theater in the round, props and set pieces), technical effects innovation and design process with teamwork and a complex scoring grid. And they succeeded!

"In DI we laugh a lot," said Nathaniel. "I look forward to going to Globals because... I want to see all the different people that come from around the world. I also want to see what Tennessee is like."

And they will have that chance to advance to the Globals stage!

More from Global Finals, Knoxville Tennessee...

The team took to the stage of the Knoxville Convention Center - and it was packed with Team New Hampshire members, as well as supportive spectators from around the US and the world!

The "DI is a big time commitment. We start in November and usually end in March," said team member Ian . "This year we will end in May- that is 7 months of teamwork- but I wouldn't have it any other way."

Now they will have an outstanding memory to add.

Their performance focused on a New York chef who goes to the Statue of Liberty and meets a friendly ghost. It turns out, the ghost was the model for the Statue back in 1885. Soon the chef is on a quest to save the spirit of the ghost and his restaurant, but first he must overcome his most challenging fear- acrophobia.

With music supporting and effective performance, they did Team New Hampshire proud!

"One of the most challenging things about DI this year was memorizing my lines", according to Nathaniel, a member of the team. " The Side Trips [scoring areas] were also hard. One of ours was music. We play the guitar, saxophone, and clarinet, and flute, and we had to practice a lot." Practice made perfect!

"Going to Globals will be a lifetime memory", according to Ian. And it was. It was a strong performance for Team New Hampshire!
