Special Awards

The DaVincI Award for Outstanding Creativity.
This award is given for having a unique approach to a solution, for risk taking, and/or for outstanding creativity (not skill or talent).

Chesterfield Elementary

130-59780

CSI:DI, Elem Division

This performance presented a global environmental message far beyond the team’s chronological age. The beautiful scenery and special effects showed their high level of research and understanding of the arctic habitat. The illuminating gadget was technically solid, and was clearly effective.

The Renaissance Award for outstanding Design, Engineering, Execution, Performance

This award is given for outstanding skill in the areas of engineering, design, or performance.

Jaffrey Rindge Middle School

130-95506

CSI:DI, Middle Level

The team’s overall thematic message on nuclear uses and proliferation was based on historical developments and evidence. The value of “good versus bad effects” helped us to weigh the benefits of its value to mankind. The elaborate function of a “Roman Share” helped to illustrate multiple scenes in a creative fashion. The gadget was exceptionally well constructed and its design far exceeded our expectations.

Bow Elementary

130-44631

CSI:DI, Elem Level

This team demonstrated outstanding skill in creating a projector in a creative way. It was used to identify clues needed to solve the case. It was well designed and engineered, and critical to the overall performance.

Appleton Elementary

130-08034

Card-DI-ology, Elem Level

This team’s skill in the design of their scenery and props showed the level of their dedication and commitment to the team and the solution. They used cards in every aspect of their performance, from the design of their scenery to the costumes and props in a creative and witty fashion.

Rindge Memorial School

130-38564

Round About Courage, Elementary

This team designed and built a technical costume that blew us away. A team member wearing dragon wings represented the disease A.L.S. The wings consisted of a series of strings, hinges, and pullies that attached to wooden sticks. When the strings were pulled through straws on the team member’s shoulders, the wings sprang out, bending in several places depending on how the strings were pulled. This was a powerful representation of a horrific disease.

Conant High School

130-18450

Round About Courage, Secondary

This team’s performance was seamless. Utilizing natural materials such as miss, pines, flowers and egg shells, the team created stunning scenery that transported the audience to the outdoors. The team built a mountain that members entered the stage from underneath. The mountain, built using an intricate pulley system and hydraulic jack-like interior framework, descended during the performance, creating an illusion that the performers were climbing upward. The team integrated a powerful musical finale that included the use of team-created “birch tree drums”. The music, lyrics, scenery and technical device all came together to form a truly memorable performance.

Bow Elem. School

DIrect Flight, Elem. Level

We were amazed by the team’s confidence in their solution, and their teamwork! This challenge has a number of separate parts, raising and launching aircraft, aiming to the highest-scoring landing zone, side trips and performing a skit. This team distributed the tasks needed to accomplish these elements across members of the team resulting in a tight, seamless execution of all the elements. It was our joy to travel with the team to the Indian equivalent of Roswell, i.e., “Zone 25”, as a part of this well-oiled Renaissance presentation of the Bow Elementary School.

Spirit of Discovery and ImagiNation Award (Spirit of DI)

This award is given in recognition of those who act as superior role models in the areas of spirit,
sportsmanship and volunteerism.

“Better Late Than Never” Amherst Middle School

130-50141

Switching TraDItions, Middle Level

When their respective teams decided to withdraw from the tournament, the season should have ended for these two girls—but it didn’t! Last Thursday, they decided to form a new team, and met Friday to begin work on their new solution.

Appleton Elementary

130-08034

Card-DI-ology, Elem. Level

This team showed excellent teamwork and humor as they solved their challenge. They each had clearly defined roles and even left enough time to practice their skit, which was funny the first time and got even better the second time. This team exemplified the spirit of instant challenge problem solving. “Now that’s what I call highlights!”

Keene High School

130-31681

Switching TraDItions, Secondary Level

This team showed exceptional teamwork throughout their StuDIo time and performance. Their cooperation in developing story ideas was outstanding. Even when an idea wasn’t used, it was enthusiastically welcomed. They were constantly trying out lines using different accents and languages. They cooperation really showed during their performance as well, and enhanced their stage presence.
