This is one of four teams from Hollis Elementary Schools!
Meet Alex, Mandy, Charlotte, Evan, Concy and Nathan! This is the Globals team representing New Hampshire in the Elementary Hit or Myth Challenge!
A lot of the challenges focused around one prop this year. "The discus thrower", said Alex. "We started with chicken wire then recreated it, drank a lot of root beer because we needed the cans then changed it again". Charlotte saw it differently. "Decisions- we all have different opinions but had to decide".
Ultimately, the teamwork and self-management aspect of the team overcame their challenges. The team advanced from Regional to State competition and are now heading for the largest creativity competition in the world: Destination ImagiNation Global Finals.
More information about this team will be posted in the near future.
It was an outstanding day at GLobals for this Team NH representative from Hollis!
An archeologist digs up an old, famous status in Athens Greece but can't figure out how it got there. She brings it to her scientist friend who is studying the Greek myth of Medusa. The scientist describes his experiments to determine if a woman and a baby could survive in a box at sea. The scientist gives the archeologist the book of the Myth of Medusa.
Flashback to ancient Greece. The king learns of a prophecy that his grandson will kill him so he sends his daughter Danae and her son Perseus to sea in a wooden box. They are saved by a fisherman and his brother. Twenty years later, to get a wedding gift for the fisherman, Perseus goes off to kill the Gorgon Medusa. After returning, he heads for the Olympics where he accidentally kills his Grandfather with a discus.
Back in the present, the archeologist thinks that perhaps Perseus looked at Medusa as he was throwing a discus and was turned into the discovered statue.
