Special Awards

The DaVincI Award for Outstanding Creativity.
This award is given for having a unique approach to a solution, for risk taking, and/or for outstanding creativity (not skill or talent).

Jaffrey-Rindge Middle School

Hit or Myth

Middle

Your team starts their DI season with a cool way of solving a DI challenge and reducing bullying at your school. You involve the whole school in testing the Japanese myth of 1000 cranes for making a wish come true. Then you find out the DI challenge masters rule your solution is illegal because it involves observations of people. What do you do? Well, if you are the team from Jaffrey-Rindge Middle School, you put your heads together to devise an ingenious Pachinko machine to simulate voting at your school.

Our appraisal team was impressed by the way this team dealt with adversity and integrated an even better alternative into an already impressive skit.

The Renaissance Award for outstanding Design, Engineering, Execution, Performance

This award is given for outstanding skill in the areas of engineering, design, or performance.

Obstacles, Of Course!

Elem

This team impressed us with their tight integration of their skit with the problem solution. Their elaborate scenery helped convey parts of the story along with the well-designed and executed props, costumes, and obstacles. Even their vehicle and driver were critical characters in the story. We were treaded to one surprise or detail after another in a wonderful presentation of the tale of a lost kitten.

DI’ve Got a Secret

Elementary

This team captivated us with their artful delivery and word engineering by fluidly using art puns and eloquently maintaining rhyme. They incorporated research about the history of art, beautifully recreated famous artworks, and effectively portrayed several famous artists. We thoroughly enjoyed their performance—particularly listening for all 53 words containing “art.”

Manchester West High School

Chorific

Secondary

This team presented a coherent and well formed solution to this very complex Challenge. They truly understood the difference between a sound theme and a sound effect and used their themes effectively. They worked well together to integrate the many elements of their challenge and set the standard for the meet. Well done!

Spirit of Discovery and ImagiNation Award (Spirit of DI)

This award is given in recognition of those who act as superior role models in the areas of spirit,
sportsmanship and volunteerism.

Two weeks before the tournament, this team decided to call it quits. Luckily for the audience, they changed their minds. The team gathered together and decided to push on. Their perseverance and dedication impressed us all. Two weeks after nearing giving up completely, they came together and presented their solution to a delighted audience.
